Psychologist vs. Psychiatrist

Psychiatrist

The main difference between psychologists and psychiatrists is their treatment methods. A psychiatrist can prescribe medication, but a psychologist cannot.

A psychologist helps his patient out of mental problems through counseling. Sometimes he also takes the help of herbal medicine. A psychologist does not depend so much on drugs for the well-being of his patients.

He heals the patient through physical and mental exercises. However, it takes more time. If a patient needs emergency help, he/she is referred to a psychiatrist, as a psychiatrist can do medical examinations and administers medication to the patient. As a result of taking medicine, the patient moves towards recovery faster.

Now the question may be why do we go to the psychologist? We will go to the psychiatrist to get well soon.

Mental illness is very different from physical illness. If you want to stay mentally healthy by taking medicine, it will be temporary. The chances of good long-term results are low. If you can take some time and get well mentally with counseling from a psychologist, it will give good results. You will understand yourself better, you will be able to take care of your own good and bad feelings. You will be in control of your good and bad health.

Another thing, a psychiatrist holds a degree in a specific subject. On the other hand, a psychologist must hold a Ph.D.

Hope the difference between a Psychologist and a Psychiatrist is now clear.

Thank you all.
